A Little Family Time

The six month update that I was looking forward to has been put on hold for probably another month. This was exciting..................probably only to me.......................because I was looking forward to sharing not just dumb stories of the adventure, but also giving blogland a glimpse into some of the difficulties that have come about while being away. It has been easy to share fun stories, as it often feels like this blog is a journal which I forget that people actually read. So I was looking forward to sharing and explaining the more frustrating moments.

But why has this been the case, and why has it been so long since I updated my blog. Welp, I had to make a quick week long trip back home. For those who are learning this on my blog and now that I am back in Korea, I apologize. My grandfathers health had failed him so I went to spend time with the family. It was great, as the time with family was a good surprise in the middle of a year overseas, but what was even better was the hope that we had that my grandfather is in glory with God the father. Although we cried and will miss him, I have the upmost in confidence that he is in heaven. What a great hope this is to have.

That being said, and after spending to much time on planes, cars and buses to get from my apartment to the airport (2 hours, bus) from the airport to Vancouver (10 hours, plane), from Vancouver to Eugene, Oregon (8 hours, car) and back over a period of seven days, I am bagged. I got my first solid sleep (10 hours) my first night in Korea, and I finally feel refreshed.

What is next you ask? Got classes again this week which I will probably have to play catch up with, then do evaluations for 50 some students then plan the following week of classes and getting back into the swing of things before going off to Thailand for a week of vacation on the beach the following week. None of which I look for sympathy in, quite simply the next few weeks I will be all "over the map" (I suppose this can be quite literal), never mind the fact that I was just "all over the map."

I just consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to do all of this, as I realize how lucky I really am.

These have been my ramblings and journey for now, as I hope to be a little more regular again soon, but that may have to wait until the middle of January.

Thanks again for following,

Kev

Brother Yun, The Heavenly Man

Next week will mark my ½ way point in my contract so it should be a good update. You’ll have to come back next weekend.

What I really wanted to mention thought was that last weekend, I had the chance to hear from a most inspiring man, one of the leaders of the house church movement in China, who’s story is comparable to many of the events in the book of Acts, which the pastor introduced him as. This was a night with Brother Yun (in Chinese, pronounced “uun”).

For a man with a story that will blow you away not just as a result of what he had been through, but the faithfulness of the Lord in it all, he had a very simple message. “More Living Water!” Time and time again, he would stress the need for more living water from Jesus.

His legs were crushed, he spent time in prison and in prison in China, fasted for 70 days (can’t actually remember the exact number) while in prison, jumped out of houses to get away from authorities and was even given a vision and timing from the Lord that he would escape prison in China. And his message was simple, “more living water.” Jesus, prayer, holiness. These were his calls for a western church to which was far different that his experience in China.

I don’t know how else to explain it. There was great anticipation to see this man, at least I couldn’t wait and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I suppose I was selfishly looking to hear some crazy stories, but the message was simply, “more living water”. It is Jesus that we need and Jesus who is the Lord of all. It was very simple, and the Lord did a great thing that night.

If you would like to listen to the evening you can, it is at

I haven’t tried the link yet, but it was in the bulletin at church today. I hope it includes the ones who introduced him.

God is good.

Surprise

Here I am taking a picture of myself during the first snowfall of the winter.

I had a guy at the gym tell me that my touque was "cute". This was in the changeroom and he was going into the shower. He's never been out of Korea.

Snow in Seoul

Looking down on the parking lot of our complex.

The snow is here. But apparently it doesn't usually last too long in the city. When people get out and about tommorow, they will walk all over it. Making Ice!!!

You ever seen anyone skate to work?

December Time

Gonna shoot from the hip on this one.

It is snowing, I have been listening to Christmas music for most of the day while drinking coffee and tea in an effort to fight off a bit of a cold that I have been catching. All from the comfort of my sweatpants and hoddie. Doesn't get much better than that, particularily when the first snowfall of the season is here. It has been a phenominal day to say the least.

And that is all I really want to say for now.

Hope that works

Thanksgiving Dinner

Western food has never looked as good as it did for our Thanksgiving feast at the US army base last weekend.

The only thing it was missing was mom's touch and the marshmallows that she puts on the yams!
